Adria L. Baker, EdD, has worked 40 years in international education, including most recently 27+ years at Rice University, where she continues to lead Rice’s GREAT Project. This program creates global immersion workshops for local young adults with learning differences, and is taught by international students. It won the IIE Heiskell award for access to international education.. Prior to Rice, she worked at the University of Houston. She has served in multiple leadership roles, review teams, and has received awards for service to international education and graduate student services. She led Rice’s efforts that has won multiple institutional global education awards, including the Simon Campus Internationalization Spotlight for Brazilian initiatives, two IIE Heiskell awards and two 100,000 Strong in the Americas. She is on the Board of Directors for Education Credential Evaluators (ECE) and the Brazilian-Texas Chamber of Commerce (BRATECC). She has published and presented on international education advocacy, public policy, immigration for international students and scholars, cultural integration, global mobility, cross-cultural understanding and other themes to promote relationship-building across borders. Dr. Baker now serves as the Founder & CEO of GlobalED Moments (GEMS), which is a social enterprise and consultancy intended to create transformational international education connections. She was a U.S. Fulbright Scholar Alumni Ambassador, after her two Fulbright awards: 2021 France Fulbright IEA and 2013 Fulbright Korean IEA. She has been active with NAFSA for over 35 years.
