Amanda M. Smith is currently the Acting Director of FEMA’s Individual and Community Preparedness Division (ICPD), where she manages programs that partner at all levels of government, the private sector, and community organizations to increase individual preparedness and encourage the development of disaster resilience across the Nation.
Prior to joining ICPD, she most recently served as a Branch Chief in FEMA’s National Training and Education Division (NTED), where she oversaw analysis and evaluation of NTED’s $100M+ annual investment in a portfolio of over 275 training courses, in addition to the FEMA Higher Education Program.
From 2016-2020, she was a Section Chief in FEMA’s National Preparedness Assessment Division (NPAD), where she managed the publication of five annual National Preparedness Reports. From 2017-2019, Ms. Smith also served as the Acting Branch Chief of NPAD’s Assessments and Analytics Branch where she oversaw national and community level risk and capability assessments.
Prior to joining FEMA, Ms. Smith spent seven years at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), where she was a Presidential Management Fellow and had been a lead for pandemic influenza policy and planning in the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response.
Ms. Smith earned her undergraduate degree from Colby College in Waterville, ME and a Master’s degree in Public Health from The George Washington University in Washington, DC.
