Sharon Courtney’s career at Tulane University highlights her commitment to advocacy and strategic communication, navigating complex government relations and community engagement. Her understanding of government operations at all levels has equipped her to manage crises and multi-faceted challenges effectively.
Starting as Associate Director, Sharon advanced to Vice President for Government & Community Relations, where she established pivotal community ties, enhancing Tulane’s regional and national impact. Her pre-Tulane experience includes seven years on Capitol Hill, contributing to her deep legislative knowledge.
Sharon serves on the AAU Council on Federal Relations Steering Committee, the board of the New Orleans BioDistrict and is Chair of the board for a local non-profit that oversees the region’s farmers markets, Market Umbrella. Additionally, she has served on the board for the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities. Her leadership in community initiatives and post-Katrina recovery earned her the 2006 Young Leadership Council Role Model award.
A University of Mississippi journalism graduate, Sharon embodies a leader dedicated to progress through informed advocacy and robust community relations.
